Inevitably, this leads to some repetition. I know if she told her family the truth about her mother it would ruin them, but can't she at least tell someone? Start by marking “The Killer Within: In the Company of Monsters” as Want to Read: Error rating book. Things you should know about me: I write novels! It seems quite ambitious to attempt to blend the two subjects - approaching ALS as if it were another serial killer that he was writing about. Brutal account of a struggle with ALS interestingly coupled with a life spent studying sadistic serial killers. Other than some repetitiveness that would get irritating, you can't knock a book someone writes about the struggles that they have while having this crippling disease. Things you should know about me: I write novels! But here I am. Really really good. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
I liked this book.It was interesting hearing about the authors life.Ive read all his books so it was good to hear the story behind the author and what he had to endure during his life.Very well written. Mr. Carlo's title "The Killer Within", is actually a homonym. Not recommended. Lane also begins to really take a look inside of herself and question her actions and motives. I can't wait for this sequel. The Killer Within refers to the author's battle with ALS - Lou Gehrig Disease - as well as his writing of books about serial killers and mafia hitment.

The other characters are pretty great too. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. #3 Killer Within: Killer Instinct, Book 2. Welcome back.
I definitely recommend this book. While Lane struggles with how she perceives herself and tries to come to terms with what she has done, her family takes one fumbling step at a time and allows time to heal old wounds. This is a very strange book, in that it is mostly autobiographical and partly about true crime, mixed in with how the author copes with ALS - a degenerative, untreatable, fatal disease involving motor neurons. We’d love your help. The chronology is anything but linear; it jumps around quite a bit. Green. Just Awesome!!! Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of, Published I do think parts of the book are very well written, though, and it makes me want to read one or two of his earlier books. At the end of the first book, we read as Lane killed the serial killer known as the Decapitator aka her mum. The series reminds me of something like Dexter. Since that night, Lane has felt like she is losing her touch as she hasn't been able to kill anyone as when she gets close, she panics and free. It is a mystery book and it keeps you thinking, it has a spin and turn as soon as you think you figured it out. She is about to see that her identity as the Masked Saviour isn't going to die down anytime soon as she has a copycat and now a fan site dedicated to her killings. Lane at first is intrigued, but soon she's beyond intrigued when the media begins to cover acts of violence done by the masked crusader... except she never did any of thos.
Right? I found the writing a bit narcissitic but it is a biography. Haha, nope. by The Overlook Press. Trying to get back to normal after her mother's death, and subsequent secrets that unfolded in the first book, Lane just needs to kill. I'm sure this one will, too! Book Giveaway: The Killer Within by Philip Carlo -- His final book - now live.
Lane is trying to grieve with her family but feels isolated because only she knows the truth of the Decapitator and her mother's side-line. The Killer Within is a truly excellent read.
This review was originally posted on Book Briefs. At the end of the first book, we read as Lane killed the serial killer known as the Decapitator aka her mum. I didn't quite find the book gelled all that well. His book about the Night Stalker was so detailed and well written that I have friends who do not even normally read say how good it was. I didn't like this one as much as the first one. Same kisses, same conversations, same(sort of) villains.
Great writer but sad inevitable ending. The best parts of it were things such as when Carlo was talking about how going to the store is a big win for him, or how he has to breathe with a tube, and other people have to feed him. It was about this girl named Lane who tries to lead a double life, one as a normal teenager and one as the Masked Savior. However, it was good and I enjoyed it a lot so I will leave it alone for now.
We’d love your help. I would compare this author to Shiela Quigley and James Paterson. *pulls hair out in annoyance*. And I certainly feel for the author, his struggles against the disease and live as full a life as possible in defiance of it are quite remarkable. I really liked the first book, and the second book is even crazier. Overall, I would recommend this book.
Knowing that there are no other books makes me want to mark it down some as I am not sure that I really thought the ending was great for wrapping up the story. I mean no harm. Start by marking “Killer Within (Killer Instinct, #2)” as Want to Read: Error rating book.
Great second installment to the series.
The first book had some great twists and turns.
Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Same kisses, same conversations, same(sort of) villains. The author has very cleverly wrote this story involving local areas near Durham which for me gave it extra impact.A great story which kept me totally enthralled throughout the whole book. A few minor annoyances were what came across as overall conceit, his tendency to reference everyone he ever met as a great friend, and some of his writing tendencies, such as beginning far to many sentences with, "In that..." I appreciated his frank approach to discussing his limitations. That was heart-pounding. I was very interested in what would happen and who would find out about Lane. Truly one of my favorite series! I eat entirely too many chips. "), he humble brags about knowing Robert De Niro and other celebrities, how the people around him have read most of his books, and how the books have been translated into so many different langues but no, he would never think of himself as a celebrity! Lane is trying to grieve with her family but feels isolated because only she knows the truth of the Decapitator and her mother's side-line. I was able to guess who the copycat was pretty early on but everything else had my mind going in circles.
Others have been bestsellers. Not only has Mr.Carlos spent his life studying and writing about societies monsters, he was suffering from ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease", a cruel and horrific disease. I would love a 3rd book or more! Narcissitic, repetative, self indulgent.
But I love him. May 19th 2015 Be the first to ask a question about The Killer Within. This book was an eye opener for me. I’m on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Lane carries the weight of the world on her young shoulders, and is forced to hide the persisting guilt and pain that she is constantly facing on all fronts. Some have won awards.
Haha, nope. I mainly read this to finish up the series I began, and to get it off of my TBR shelf. Found it was a page turner and unable to put it down.
But suddenly everyone wants a piece of the masked crusader, and even an online fan club has been created. Although this got somewhat repetitious, it reality the disease plays out that way, rather insidiously. Warning: this series is not for the faint of heart. In this book Lane's Masked Savior inspires a fan site and copycat all leading to a lot of upset in her usually controlled life.
Like, hello, how could her aunt be so discrete! Copy cat murders that point to Lane is the new issue for her. After finishing the book on a very confused note, I was ecstatic to hear there was a sequel to clear things up. Dubbed 'The mutilator' by the media, the original killer had murdered seven women, one man, and a child, each of them tortured and dismembered, their bodies staged, and the signature of a yellow rose left at the crime scene; all within the space of seven days. She is so frustrating! Definitely avoid reading this one if you haven't read the first book.
**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: Killer Within was a more than satisfactory continuation of Lane's story, an atypical seventeen year-old girl who has many dark secrets waiting to be revealed and countless lies to be unraveled. Throw in on-again/off-again with Zach, entry of Catalina (the daughter of the man heading the Task Force on the vigilante), Kyle, the changes in her sister Daisy, Tommy from the grief counseling group, and her boss, Mike, and you have another gripping story that I couldn't put down until reaching the end. Philip Carlo was an amazing writer who wrote about a topic I love - serial killers. He also talks about how, while most people with disabilities don't want to have sex, he does.
The author, while somewhat sympathetic as he has had some hard things happen to him in his.
